Best Mustang Exhaust Ever!Below are pictures of the installation of my totally custom 3" dual exhaust system which includes the installation of the powered bypass valves. The system starts with a set of Mac 1 3/4" headers that originally had 2.5" collectors (from my old system). I ordered new 3" ball/socket flanges, cut off the 2.5" collectors, and welded on the new 3" collectors. I then sent the headers to Jet-Hot to be coated. The final product looks great and fits awesome. The MAC headers came with HTS coating but the Jet-hot coating is much better. Behind the headers is a MAC Pro-Chamber for long tube headers that was actually designed for a different year car. I found it on eBay. It had been abandoned in a shop somewhere and the people selling it didn't know what it was supposed to fit. Surprisingly it only required minor modification to make it work for the car. The harder part was modifying the transmission cross-member to allow for the huge 3" pipes! It has been cut back and re-enforced for strength. It is stronger than stock now but allows plenty of room for the big exhaust. Next are a set of Flo-Pro Twister Mufflers. I love these mufflers. Alone they provide as much silencing as most muffles but provide practically zero back pressure. What is funny is practically nobody I know has ever heard/used these mufflers. I run them on everything I have! I use this first set as a resonator and so that the bypass valves will be "legal" when open. Next comes the DMH Performance Electric Exhaust Bypass Valves (e-cutout). Without a doubt the number one thing that gets everyones attention at a show is the exhaust bypass valves opening. Do yourself a favor - order a set and get them installed. You will be the hit of the show! Here is a video of the valves in action. Behind the bypass valves are the standard Mac 3" mufflers that are included with their cat-back system. These mufflers alone are louder than a set of 2 chamber Flowmaster mufflers. Next are the MAC 3" mandrel bent tailpipes. All I can say is what a wonderful design! Being able to get 3" exhaust pipes over the axles without removing the whole rearend is amazing. I can actually remove the whole exhaust system with the car just on jackstands. This is a great design and I highly recommend it. In the tailpipes I have another set of the
Twister Mufflers. At first I
left these out but the car was too loud (for me, and old guy). With this
3rd set of mufflers (6 mufflers total) the exhaust is exactly the way I wanted
it! Panoramic photo stitched together (kinda warped but....) |
